About Us

We, the Bowtie Brigade, are a student lead community team composed of students from six different schools.  We meet in a centralized location in SE Portland where we learn about not only STEM, but about leadership, communication, and how a business runs. We also learn about the communities around us, each other, and ourselves.  We take part in the FIRST Robotics Competition beginning in January and lasting till the regional competition in March, sometimes the world competition in April, depending on how well we do at our regional competition.

This is a student run, academically specialized robotics team. The team’s motto is: “To recognize, to embrace, and to educate.”  Our motto correlates with our mission, as follows: “To recognize new technologies and opportunities to learn new things in the fields of STEM and other life skills; to embrace the inevitable change in ourselves; to educate ourselves and our community about not only developing technologies and how change can be a good thing, but about the businesses within our community and what they can do for every one.” The team began, officially, on July 26, 2011.

The team was founded by students from Oregon City High School, Gladstone High School, Benson High School, Cleveland High School, and Gresham High School, as well as Ogden Middle School.  Because we have numerous students from many schools, we are known as a community team.  At the present time, we have 20 student members and 9 adult mentors.  We are located in SE Portland, Oregon.
